Stones Throw Podcast 63: Dimlite - Lit Paper Hats Forever

Dimlite, is by far one of the most elusive and creative villains in this here electronic beat realm. Known for his mystical sample-based creations and sporadic vocoder moments, he is an artist who always strives to engage the weird and obscure, so imagine my delight when I received word that he had graced us with a 50-minute electronic mix for the good people of Stones Throw as part of their Podcast Series.

Stateless - Ariel (Co-produced by Kidkanevil)

Got the links to this little number a few days ago and am heavily impresses. Co-produced by Kidkanevil, ‘Ariel’ sees Stateless return with a cyber-synth song that is tinged with a heavy ethnic hook - a combination that is sure to catapult this song into the playlists of tastemakers the world over.

The video is colourful mix of swirls and dots interwoven with contemporary dance, so even if the song feels too left of pop for you, then watch it on mute and treat your ocular cavities to something wondrous. Remixes come courtesy of Warp Records beatsmith, Rustie, who manages to sprinkle his synthetic synth tapestry on the vocals of Chris James to create a haunting interpretation. While Dark Sky, raises the tempo with a dance-floor ready dubstep-ish number. The single will be available from November 22nd 2010 and the album entitled ‘Matilda’ is due for release in February 2011 on Ninja Tune.

Last week the homie Tek put me up on this young lady from Atlanta, GA by the name of DJ JW. She makes a variety of music from Hip-Hop to Trip-Hop to Experimental and you will get to hear all of these styles and then some within this beat tape. Lots of dope, chilled-out vibes on this so don't sleep.

Randomly ran into Kadaj a week ago on Soundcloud and was in for quite a pleasant surprise. This beat maker from the DC area had some straight up slappers on his page and his latest project "Kaydeekay" just dropped yesterday. You definitely get the DMV sound you expect in terms of punchy kicks and crisp,cracking snares. Definitely worth a listen, especially since it's FREE! "Love x3" is a personal favorite of mine.
